Robert McCay's journey to jewellery artisan began unexpectedly—through the lens of a camera. For decades, he chased light through Brisbane's streets and quiet country towns, training his eye to see what others overlooked: the poetry in worn pavements, the resilience in concrete hills, the potential hidden in forgotten corners. His photography career taught him that true beauty lives in authenticity, not manufactured perfection. But eventually, capturing life through a lens wasn't enough. Robert craved something more tangible—a way to create beauty people could hold, wear, and carry with them. That's when he discovered stones: ancient materials shaped by millennia, each with its own story, character, and connection to humanity's deepest traditions.
ROK Jewellery was born from this convergence of artistry and intention. Drawing on the timeless heritage of stones revered across cultures—from African deserts to Asian temples, from indigenous sacred lands to ancient Egyptian courts—Robert creates pieces that honour these natural gems as more than minerals.
